Free shuttle service between Illunbe car park and the City Centre this Christmas season

From this Saturday 2nd December to 6th January, over the run-up to Christmas and throughout the holiday season, Dbus and Donostia/San Sebastian City Council’s Travel Department will once again be running a free shuttle service between Illunbe car park and the city centre.

The service will be available on weekends and public holidays over the first few weeks. There will also be a daily shuttle service over the December bank holiday weekend to make it easier for visitors to travel to the city.

Daily service will start on the weekend of 16th December, except for 25th December and 1st January.

This shuttle service makes it easier to travel between the free Illunbe car park and San Sebastian city centre, with the aim of promoting public transport and reducing traffic in the city.

The initiative has been very well received by the public since launching in 2021. This can be seen in the data for 2022, when 7011 trips were made, which is three times the average daily usage compared to the previous year, when 2711 trips were recorded.

With this in mind, the Travel Department and Gipuzkoa Provincial Council have agreed to use illuminated signs placed alongside main roads to inform people visiting San Sebastian by car this Christmas and encourage them to use the service.

100% electric bus

The bus running between Illunbe and the city centre is a 12-metre 100% electric zero-emission bus. This MAN Lions City 12e model has been acquired as part of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism’s extraordinary call for Tourism Sustainability in Destinations, with the support of European Next Generation funds.

It is the first bus to join the service as part of the purchase made from MAN TRUCK & BUS IBERIA, S.A.U., the company that won the tender, and will allow a further thirteen 12-metre and six 18-metre 100% electric buses to be incorporated into the San Sebastian fleet.

Service details

The shuttle service will run every 20 minutes, and will continue to have two stops:

• Illunbe stop: departures every 20 minutes from 11 a.m. to 10.20 p.m.
• Plaza Centenario stop: departures every 20 minutes from 11:10 a.m. to 10.30 p.m. The service will be available on the following dates:
• 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th December.
• The service will run from 16th December through to 6th January on a daily basis, except 25th December and 1st January when there will be no service.
